The Scout Scoop
Happy Thanksgiving

Hope everyone has a wonderful thanksgiving.  Here is a joke to pass along....

A young man named John received a parrot as a gift. The parrot had a bad attitude and an even worse vocabulary. Every word out of the bird's mouth was rude, obnoxious and laced with profanity. John tried and tried to change the bird's attitude by consistently saying only polite words, playing soft music and anything else he could think of to"clean up" the bird's vocabulary.

Finally, John was fed up and he yelled at the parrot. The parrot yelled back. John shook the parrot and the parrot got angrier and even ruder. John, in desperation, threw up his hand, grabbed the bird and put him in the freezer.

For a few minutes the parrot squawked and kicked and screamed. Then suddenly there was total quiet. Not a peep was heard for over a minute. Fearing that he'd hurt the parrot, John quickly opened the door to the freezer. The parrot calmly stepped out onto John's outstretched arms and
said, "I believe I may have offended you with my rude language and actions. I'm sincerely remorseful for my inappropriate transgressions and I fully intend to do everything I can to correct my rude and unforgivable behavior."

Popcorn forms and prize selections are due!

These are the last few days to make sure we step in and have our best selling year ever! There are a lot of exiciting prizes awarded to the boys on a district level, as well as the return of "Cream the Cubmaster" and gift certificates to the highest sellers on the pack level. Most importantly, we as a pack family reap the benefit of great sales. All forms are due to me by Friday the 28th (the day after Thanksgiving) . Prize selections must be listed on the forms at that time. Due to the sale extension we won't get a second chance to order prizes, so please make sure your scout picks what he wants. In this, my third and final year as the popcorn "kernel", I'd like to request that every family get involved, I'm dying for that Blue Bell Ice Cream party!

Pack 1550 can use your help

Pack 1550 is promoting the collection of the following items to tie into the “Seeds of Kindness” theme for November.  We will collect the items at the October and November Pack meetings, so have the scouts in your den bring them directly to the pack meetings, or you can collect them at your den meeting and you can bring the items to the pack meetings.

We are collecting non-perishable food items to help replenish Northwest Assistance Ministry’s ( NAM ’s) food pantry.

We are also collecting items to send to the troops overseas in Iraq , Afghanistan , and Kuwait .  See the link below for a list of items commonly requested by the troops.

http://www.cypress-cares.org/SUGGESTEDDONATIONS.html

Other items include:

  • dried fruit
  • banana chips (and lots of them!)
  • shave gel
  • after shave with moisturizers (dry skin)
  • razors (gillette and fusion)
  •  beef jerky (again a favorite)
  •   nuts
  • trail mix
  • Amazon.com gift cards (one of the only places that ships to Iraq and the guys all shop there ALL THE TIME. Seriously more than they should)
  •  Phone cards
  •  Men's Health or other Men's magazines (obviously of the non pornographic sort)
  • Homemade cookies (if the mom's like to do it, the guys love homemade cookies. Put in plastic baggies or tins and they keep fine)

You can get boxes at the post office to pack the items in – no limit on the weight.

Also, scouts can collect the pull tabs from soda cans to support the Ronald McDonald House.  Bring the pull tabs to the Pack Meeting to fill up our Ronald McDonald House.
